What is I'm A Celeb without Bushtucker trials?
…Get Me Out Of Here! could be saying goodbye to its famous Bushtucker trails this year…due to British animal welfare laws. For 2020, Ant and Dec will be swapping the Australian jungle for the ruins of a British castle, but there could be bigger changes to the format on the way.
Namely, the fact that British animal welfare laws discourage the use of live creatures in TV productions. The Animal Welfare Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act will both need to be adhered to by I’m A Celeb, where they specifically banning animals going through any ‘undue suffering.’In Britain, production companies looking to use animals are also advised to get in touch with the RSCPA and their specialist performing animal team.
A statement on the charity’s site reads: ‘We have a policy against the use of animals in entertainment where distress or suffering is caused or is likely to be caused.: ‘The RSPCA does not endorse the use of animals in any form of entertainment and in particular where this is likely to cause distress or suffering.
‘However, we do feel it’s important to offer advice to those who decide to use animals in entertainment and will always offer further guidance including ways to seek alternatives to animal use.’‘More generally, we don’t endorse the use of animals in any form of entertainment, but if approached we will offer advice that promotes good welfare practice and can help avoid unnecessary distress and suffering.
