They thanked customers for the 'good years'
Workers at a Nottingham branch of Wilko have asked for vodka and cake to 'get us through this difficult time"'. Members of staff at the Bulwell store, which is set to become a Poundland, made the request in a handwritten sign on Thursday, September 21.
The sign reads: "Dear valued customers of Bulwell, thank you for all the good years!! We will miss working here and serving you. Please feel free to bring us cake or vodka to get us through this difficult time. With love from the staff here." It was announced last week that all 400 Wilko stores across the UK would be closing by early October, meaning likely redundancies for all 12,500 staff. Stores in Sherwood, Clifton, Kimberley and Long Eaton closed for the final time on Tuesday, September 19.Branches in Carlton and Beeston are shutting on Thursday. The Bulwell Wilko store, in Main Street in the town, is one of 71 branches set to be taken over by rival budget retailer Poundland.
