At least three wildfires have ignited near towns in North Carolina still recovering from the damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The Crooked Creek Fire has burned an estimated 250 acres and is 55 percent contained. Evacuations have been lifted for the affected areas, allowing residents to return home. Two other fires ignited on Wednesday afternoon, but no evacuations are in place. Officials warn that the combination of dry brush, downed trees from the hurricane, and gusty winds creates ideal conditions for rapid fire spread.
