Multiple wildfires are burning across the Los Angeles area, leading to mandatory evacuations for tens of thousands of residents and causing widespread power outages.

Wildfires are raging across the Los Angeles area, prompting mandatory evacuations for at least 49,000 people and a huge firefighter response. The blazes are 0% contained. Millions of people across Southern California are under a red flag warning, which means high temperatures, very low humidity and winds that are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger.

The fires have already burned through almost 3,000 acres, while the Eaton Fire has destroyed 1,000 acres and the Hurst Fire has affected 500 acres. No deaths have been reported from the fires so far, but Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in light of what he called 'unprecedented' blazes. The Hurst fire, which has so far burned 500 acres in and around the San Fernando Valley, is approaching the nearby city of Santa Clarita, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department warned early Wednesday. The fire is currently affecting the suburb of Sylmar — which is currently under an evacuation order — but wind storms are spreading the fire north towards Santa Clarita, the sheriff’s department said.
