A massive wildfire erupted in Riverside County , California , triggering mandatory evacuations for several areas. The blaze, dubbed the ' Wolf Fire ,' ignited shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, near Banning, close to the junction of Old Banning Idyllwild Road and Wolfskill Truck Trail.As of the latest updates, the Wolf Fire has consumed an estimated 1,400 acres and is currently 10% contained.
Authorities have issued mandatory evacuation orders for specific zones, while an evacuation warning, suggesting heightened preparedness, has been issued for additional areas facing potential risk. Residents in need of shelter are directed to Hemet High School on East Stetson Avenue. A temporary animal shelter has been established at 581 South Grand Avenue in San Jacinto. A separate wildfire, the Mandalay Fire, is also raging in Riverside County. This blaze has scorched approximately 83 acres and remains uncontained. There were initial concerns as the fire threatened nearby homes on Tyler Street and Mandalay Court, but forward progress has been halted. Firefighters continue to battle lingering smoke and hot spots, urging caution despite the cessation of active fire spread. Evacuees from the Mandalay Fire have been directed to La Sierra Center. The cause of both wildfires remains under investigation, and it is unclear when evacuation orders will be lifted
