Female factory workers were protesting harsh working conditions, low wages and the lack of protection in the workplace. This was in the early 1900s.Since then, there has been some recognition of women's rights and gender equality.
Leila Joudane, United Nations Population Fund country representative, says that the 2022 Philippine National Demographic and Health Survey presents a grim picture: 18 percent of Filipino women suffered abuse. This may be physical, sexual or emotional.Worse, two out of five women don't seek help for domestic abuse in their own homes.
