Wicked: For Good has landed a spot on a major box office chart. The new sequel adapts the second act of the Broadway musical about the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wicked: For Good release kicked off the weekend before Thanksgiving with a $147 million opening weekend that marked the best ever for a Broadway adaptation.
Per Deadline, Wicked: For Good has concluded its second full week in theaters by hitting a cumulative total of $280.2 million at the domestic box office. This total sees it squeaking past the domestic gross of Ryan Coogler's Sinners, which earned $279.6 million in North America by the end of its run. In doing so, Wicked: For Good has broken into the chart of the Top 5 highest-grossing movies of 2025 at the domestic box office. Below, see the full domestic Top 5 at the time of writing: Considering the fact that Wicked: For Good is only now heading into the third weekend of its run, during which Variety projects that it could collect a 3-day domestic total between $21 and $25 million, it is well on its way toward earning the roughly $60 million that it would need in order to outgross Jurassic World Rebirth and become the No. 4 movie of the year. It will almost certainly be necessary for 2025's Wicked: For Good to do this in order to secure a spot in the domestic Top 5 by the end of the year. Otherwise, it could be kicked out by another December blockbuster. While the majority of the movies that are set to debut through the end of December are unlikely to outpace the tentpole blockbuster, there is a major competitor preparing to enter the arena. That would be the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is a sequel to the first and third highest-grossing movies of all time. Even if it is hit by unprecedented diminishing returns and earns half of the domestic gross of the previous installment, 2022's The Way of Water, it would still make a whopping $345 million. If Wicked: For Good is able to stay in the Top 5, it will continue a trend set by its predecessor. 2024's Wicked ended the year as the No. 3 movie at the domestic box office with a $432.9 million domestic gross that was only bested by Deadpool & Wolverine's $636.7 million and Inside Out 2's $653 million.
