Long security lines at airports are disrupting travel plans across the country.

, which oversees TSA, has been in a partial shutdown since mid-February, and lawmakers remain deadlocked on funding. On Wednesday, Republican and Democrats in the Senate again failed to agree on legislation to end the partial shutdown, with each party rejecting the other's proposal.

TSA Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill has warned that the agency may be forced to close certain airports if funding isn’t restored. More than 3,160 TSA employees, roughly 11 percent of the workforce scheduled, failed to report for duty on Tuesday, according toWhy Travel Insurance May Not Cover Delays Amid the disruptions, passengers hoping travel insurance will cover missed flights could be in for a rude awakening. Standard policies generally exclude missed flights caused by “foreseeable” events, and long TSA lines, even those exacerbated by a government shutdown, fall into that category.: “Most people probably aren’t covered. Standard travel insurance policies typically don’t cover you for missing a flight for any reasons that are deemed foreseeable. Long TSA lines fall under this category, regardless if the government is shut down or not. So even if you get to the airport six hours ahead of your flight to be cautious and still manage to not make it through security in time, you’re probably still not going to be covered.” There is one exception: some comprehensive plans include “Cancel for Any Reason” coverage, which allows passengers to cancel and receive partial reimbursement—usually between 50 percent and 75 percent of costs. Schwab said: “If you specifically have ‘cancel for any reason’ coverage, then you should be covered. Like the name of the plan suggests, you’re paying to be covered for any possible reason that you don’t get on your flight.” He also advised that travelers check their policies carefully and pay close attention to covered causes, waiting periods and exclusions, as well as call insurers ahead of time if they are uncertain. Some carriers are attempting to ease passenger frustrations by adjusting change and rebooking policies. According to The Associated Press, United Airlines is waiving change fees and fare differences for travelers departing Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport between Monday and Wednesday, allowing rescheduling through Friday or even switching flights from Austin, Dallas or San Antonio. Delta Air Lines has also waived fees for those flying out of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport between March 23 and 30, with the ability to rebook flights through April 6. Allegiant Air is offering customers the chance to change or cancel trips without penalties until the partial government shutdown ends.
