I’m stuck in a life rut and can’t figure out how to break free.
I’m feeling very stuck in my life right now. I know it’s a cliché but it feels like I’m going through the motions of existence. I feel like I know what I need to do to improve my life . I’m in my mid-30s and had to move back home after getting laid off. I never expected to be in this position and feel lost.
Make a list of what you can accomplish today. Add “Eat three meals.” “Drink water.” “Walk around the block.” “Call a friend or better yet, meet up in person.” “Make a plan to participate in an activity you enjoy.” “Eat a banana.” “Take a shower.”Now, make a list of your longer-term goals: You need to find a new job. You need to save money. You need to move out. What else? Put it on the list!You could use some help figuring out exactly what you want to do next.
Once you have a few ideas, start talking to friends who have gotten jobs recently. Find places that interest you and reach out to people on LinkedIn who might be willing to chat about what it’s like to work there and how they got their jobs. Put small, doable action items on your list. and then do one or two of the harder ones a day, while still remembering to add things like “Drink water” and “Go for a walk.”
