Nigel Hunt, King & Wood Mallesons’ partner in charge in Perth, loves to hit the road with fellow cyclists. “It’s a great balance to work life.”
First memory of riding a bike?
Learning to ride in Albany, where I grew up. I can remember taking those first few pedal strokes and being amazed that the bike stayed upright. How many bikes and how do you know when you have too many? I have three bikes. One that I ride in Perth, one that I ride when I am down south at Margaret River, plus a spare for someone else to ride. In terms of knowing when you have too many, it’s all about the space they take up. If there are bikes in the lounge room – you have too many!I love Pinarello bikes. They produce an extra-large frame, which suits me because I am 195 centimetres tall. My dream bike would be their current top‑of‑the‑line Dogma.
Hunt would most like to ride with Simon Gerrans, front, pictured with the BMC Racing Team during the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal in 2018.One of the guys in the Ride for Youth started doing the event when he was 78 – he has just turned 82 and is a very handy cyclist. So maybe one day, but for now, the thought of stopping any time soon is out the window. My group often meets at The Other Side café in Cottesloe.
Getting back mid-Saturday morning is not always that convenient for the rest of the family, but my wife is really supportive.I’ve had a couple of serious crashes. Once I had a van do a U-turn in front of me and I went straight into the side of it . Another time, I got hit from behind by a car and ended up rolling up the bonnet, seeing the driver’s face through the windscreen.

‘A lot to negotiate’: Meghan and Harry issue demands for King Charles’ coronationFormer ITN royal editor Tim Ewart says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are asking for “status”. Mr Ewart’s remarks come after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made several extraordinary demands ahead of the King’s coronation. “It’s threatening to overshadow the coronation,” he told Sky News contributor Caroline Di Russo. “There are questions about a position in the royal procession after the coronation because that’s going to be a big moment when Charles and, by then, Queen Camilla are paraded through the streets in this golden carriage followed by members of the Royal Family. “There’s still a lot to negotiate and a lot to discuss.”

King Charles ‘clearly wants’ Prince Harry at the coronationFormer ITN Royal Editor Tim Ewart says King Charles III clearly wants his son, Prince Harry, at the coronation. Mr Ewart said there is still “a lot to negotiate and a lot discuss” ahead of the coronation. “My sense is that the Palace have extended the invitation and they’re now just able to say ‘look guys, the ball is in your court – if you don’t want to come let us know, if you do want to come, you’re going to have to play by our rules’,” Mr Ewart said.
