The trial allowed evidence about Weinstein's rudeness to restaurant staff, something an appeal court has said is irrelevant.
The Harvey Weinstein trial should never have heard evidence about his rude treatment of restaurant staff and other irrelevant details, several lawyers have told Newsweek.A New York appeals court overturned Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction yesterday and ordered a retrial. In its decision, the court ruled that the trial judge erred in allowing evidence of Weinstein's past bad behavior that had nothing to do with the charges.
He said the decision upholds a long-established New York law that prosecutors cannot use a defendant's uncharged acts to show that he or she has a propensity for bad behavior.'The topics included Weinstein's bullying and fits of anger toward employees, restaurant workers and business associates.
