Despite Anakin Skywalker's tragic turn to the dark side in Star Wars, the galaxy at large long believed he was the greatest Jedi in the entire Order.
Despite eventually terrorizing the galaxy as Darth Vader, many in the Star Wars universe believed Anakin Skywalker to be the greatest Jedi. Anakin was a Jedi of great potential and immense power – naturally gifted with the Force and as a fighter, Anakin quickly rose to the rank of Jedi Knight despite arriving at the Order years later than his peers.

As those outside the Order had no way of knowing Anakin’s prophesied fate, and few outside the Jedi Order knew him on a personal level, it can be hard to understand why Anakin was seen as the greatest Jedi the Order had to offer.
The Clone Wars depicts many of Anakin and Obi-Wan’s daring rescue missions, valiant battles, and terrifying ordeals. Together and separately, they saved many oppressed civilizations that were under threat from the Separatists, stopping at nothing to get the job done. Planets like Ryloth and Felucia would have been grateful for their bravery, and Anakin was instrumental in saving the lives of Republic senators and other important galactic leaders on several occasions.
The Galaxy Didn't Learn Anakin Was Darth Vader... Until 28 ABY Despite his bravery during the Clone Wars, his legacy as Vader must have destroyed any semblance of trust the general public had in Anakin Skywalker. However, it’s important to note that the public didn’t learn of Anakin’s fate until much later. Even Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s own Padawan and one of his closest friends, didn’t realize that he had become Darth Vader until Star Wars Rebels season 2, which takes place around 4 BBY .
Claudia Gray’s novel Bloodline explores Leia Organa’s tenure as a member of the Galactic Senate during the reign of the New Republic. In the novel, one of Leia’s prominent political opponents, a clandestine member of the still-growing First Order, learns that Darth Vader was Leia’s real father, and uses that knowledge to turn the rest of the Senate and the public against her.
