Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino didn't feature any significant female roles in his first feature, but that was not his original intention.
Quentin Tarantino had no women characters in the final cut of his first feature film Reservoir Dogs. The cult classic, both written and directed by Tarantino, features an all-male cast led by Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi, and Michael Madsen. The film tells the story of a robbery gone wrong, following the chaotic events that unfold after a police setup that indicates that one of the six thugs is a rat.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Most of Tarantino's protagonists have been men, which is natural considering his love for classical movies, particularly Westerns, that often glorify masculine themes of heroism and aggressive competition. His two famous Kill Bill movies feature a female lead Uma Thurman, who had to train extensively for months before production in one of the most shocking sacrifices actors have made for movies.
While women are depicted in Reservoir Dogs, with one individual being credited as "Shocked Woman", Tarantino's comment reveals that at the time, he didn't envision any of the criminals as women. The role of a criminal or robber has historically been depicted by men throughout film history, particularly in another heist movie of the early 90s called Heat.
Reservoir Dogs' Only Female Character Got Cut From The Movie Tarantino did originally film a scene with a female character named Jody McKlusky, a police officer played by Nina Siemaszko. For directorial reasons that likely had to do with exposition and pace, Tarantino ultimately decided to cut the scene from the movie. In the deleted scene, McKlusky meets with Mr. Orange to break down each of the male characters that he will be doing the heist with.
