Tammy Morales does not want to talk about why she should be elected to a second term on the Seattle City Council.
by Chris Daniels, KOMO News Senior Reporterwho did not respond for weeks and then ultimately turned down an offer to discuss her candidacy in depth, and the policy issues in her district, in an extended platform on KOMO News and, all of the finalists for the seven seats were offered the opportunity to discuss their campaign in a sit-down interview with me. They all received the exact same email.
Morales has been one of the least available City Council members in the past four years. She is also one of the three incumbents seeking a second term. Andrew Lewis and Dan Strauss have both agreed to multiple interviews over time and sat down for this opportunity. Morales has made several important votes, in a pandemic-forced Zoom environment and only started appearing in person in Council chambers recently, including on the recent drug possession law discussion.
Morales was a lead voice to “defund the police” in 2020 and was the first council member to send out a press release about the body cam footage which captured comments from Seattle Police Officer Dan Auderer after another officer sped through an intersection in his cruiser, striking and killing Jaahnavi Kandula.
In case the messages were going to junk mail, I followed up with phone calls to the campaign’s official phone number on, to let the campaign again know that she was the only candidate who had not responded. By this point, the extensive interviews had already been airing and published., again offering the same opportunity granted to her challenger and the 12 other candidates.
