Top talent, environmental consciousness and a mature venture ecosystem are key reasons

Unlike other areas around the nation and world, The City has an existing and well-developed ecosystem for launching and developing startups of all kinds, they say. It continues to attract a huge number of successful entrepreneurs and well-trained technical people, many of whom have been increasingly motivated to fight climate change.

One of the interesting things about the green-tech scene in The City is its diversity. Local clean-tech companies include those developing high-tech hardware such as Span’s, those offering software and services similar to Aurora’s or Watershed’s, and those working on products that fall outside those traditional tech categories.
Part of the reason for that was that he and his co-founders were all based in the Bay Area, having all gone to Stanford or UC Berkeley, he said. Another part of the draw was that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore has a testing facility for supercooled hydrogen, he said.
