Manchester City were missing Phil Foden and Savinho as they lined up to take on West Ham in the Premier League
Pep Guardiola indicated on Friday that Foden would not make the trip, having experienced discomfort against Chelsea in the opening Premier League game and still not feeling right a week later against Ipswich. The hope is he will be available to take on Brentford in two weeks, with it remaining to be seen whether or not he links up with the England squad in the meantime.
Savinho's absence came as more of a surprise, with the Brazillian winger having started the first two matches and trained this week ahead of the match at the London Stadium. The 22-year-old has picked up a knee injury, with Guardiola telling Sky Sports that the player didn't feel right with it but he will hopefully be back after the international break.
Nico O'Reilly was promoted up to the first team squad in their absence, taking his place on the bench as Guardiola made just one change from the team that beat Ipswich. Mateo Kovacic was fit to keep his place in the XI, with Jack Grealish coming in for Savinho. City can move two points ahead of Arsenal with a victory after the Gunners were held 1-1 by Brighton at the Emirates in the early kick-off. Kai Havertz gave Mikel Arteta's team the lead but a second yellow card for Declan Rice proved costly as Joao Pedro equalised for the visitors.
