Reason why Sanji fights with his legs in One Piece

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Sanji never uses his hands during fights in Netflix's One Piece, making it hard not to wonder where the kick-only policy of his fighting style stems from. Played by Taz Skylar, Sanji first appears in One Piece's episode 5, where he masterfully prepares a True Bluefin Sauté. Unfortunately for him, Zeff instantly chucks him out of the kitchen after learning that he has gone off the menu.

Towards the end of the episode, Sanji tells Luffy about his dream of finding a place called All Blue, where ingredients from all four seas can be found. Like the introductory scene, this one, too, reveals a lot about Sanji's role in One Piece's overarching storyline and why he adopts a unique kick-only fighting style.

To sustain his passion for cooking and advancing his skills as a kicker, Sanji learned a martial art called the Black Leg Style from Zeff, which seemingly combines fighting styles from several martial arts like Capoeira and Taekwondo. Although he never directly punches anyone with his fists, he uses his hands to perform handstands and back handsprings to increase the momentum and overall range of his kicks.

Sanji Has One Other Fighting Rule In One Piece In the One Piece anime and manga, Sanji strictly follows another combat principle: he never fights women. Even if his female enemies intend to kill him, Sanji holds back from reciprocating. While the exact reason behind this is unknown, it can be attributed to one of his conversations with Zeff. Zeff once warned Sanji that he would kill him if he ever tried hitting a woman.

There is also a controversial side to Sanji's no-fighting women rule. Like many shounen characters, he falls into the "chivalrous pervert" archetype because he does not mind being a peeping tom but still shows his respect towards women by not fighting them. The not-fighting rule, in fact, is not even a conscious choice for him. As One Piece's manga confirmed , “Sanji doesn’t have a ‘policy’ of not kicking women; the truth is that he actually CAN’T kick them.
