Samuel L. Jackson explains why he sometimes changes Nick Fury's MCU dialogue. 'I’ve been doing Nick Fury for so long, I know what he sounds like and I know how he thinks and how he feels.'

Samuel L. Jackson explains why he sometimes needs to change Nick Fury's lines in the MCU. The primary force for the Avengers Initiative, the former director of SHIELD has been a main fixture in the universe since its inception in 2008. Jackson appeared as Fury at the end of Iron Man, this makes him one of the oldest characters who are still in the franchise as it moves past the Infinity Saga.

After being an important player in the first two Avengers films, Fury's role was reduced towards the end of the Infinity Saga to mere cameos, except in the prequel Captain Marvel. But, now, he's set to return to the MCU as he reclaims his place as the universe's most influential character. Jackson is spearheading the upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. He's also going to appear in Nia DaCosta's The Marvels, which will reunite him with Brie Larson's Carol Danvers.

"I’ve been doing Nick Fury for so long, I know what he sounds like and I know how he thinks and how he feels. I know writers sit at home and write. If the writer is a fan of that kind of thing – the superhero genre – they know how to do it. I’ve had directors who have written comic books, so when they say, “Say it the way I wrote it,” you can go, “Okay, so we’re doing comic book speak.

It's totally understandable that Jackson would be vocal about the way Fury is used in MCU projects; after all, he's been bringing the role to life for almost 15 years. This means that he has inhabited the role far longer than any director and/or writer that gets to use the character. So, it makes sense that he flags them down if he thinks that the dialog he needs to deliver isn't consistent with how Fury has been portrayed in the MCU thus far.

Looking at MCU's slate, fans will see more of Nick Fury moving forward. That means that the viewers will finally learn what he's been up to for the last several years after Spider-Man: Far From Home floated the idea that Fury's working on a secret project with the Skrulls. Secret Invasion will have the full answer to this mystery, but beyond that, expect the character to continuously play a role in the franchise.
