The latest PwC report on remuneration trends shows that women are still not ascending to top executive positions. The pay gap is not narrowing much either. | Fin24
Nonkululeko Gobodo says when women get married, the priorities of caring for a family weigh heavily on them. The 2021 PwC report on remuneration trends shows that only 13% of South Africa's executive directors are women, including CEOs and CFOs. In absolute numbers, that, it's just 81 women.
The lack of female representation at the executive level is consistent across large, medium and small-cap companies, despite this becoming a greater point of discussion locally and globally for decades now. One can still count JSE-listed companies with female CEOs on the one hand. Meanwhile, the list of female CEOs in listed companies has also seen some prominent names crossed off, like Basani Maluleke's unceremonious departure from African Bank and Lizé Lambrechts's imminent early retirement from Santam.
