One Boston Red Sox insider highly doubts star prospect Kristian Campbell will earn a spot on the opening day roster.
Before spring training started, Kristian Campbell appeared to have a great shot at earning a spot on the Red Sox's opening day roster -- regardless of his position.But things have changed for the top prospect.
Entering Wednesday, Campbell was just 1-for-15 with four walks and nine strikeouts in spring training action. He also showed he still was far from a finished product at second base.As a result, Red Sox insider Ian Browne now doubts Campbell will break camp with the big league club.'The more that time goes on, the more it feels like Kristian Campbell won't be on the Opening Day roster,' Browne wrote in a Tuesday post on the X platform. 'Alex Cora loves the work ethic and the athleticism but he is still a work in progress at being ready to play second in the Majors in three weeks.'None of this should make Red Sox fans worry about Campbell, who's a consensus top 10 prospect in baseball and should play in the majors this season. A seven-game sample in spring training doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things.Rather, Campbell simply could need more seasoning in the minor leagues.
