Is it a broken bone, or just a bad sprain? It will be nearly impossible to see your family doctor on short notice, and no one wants to spend hours in an emergency department.
Patients have shown that they like the updated urgent cares. Patient volume increased up to 20% for the seven UH urgent care locations that were moved out of medical office buildings to a retail location, Cicero said.which helps health systems reimagine their urgent care networks. WellStreet Urgent Care, with 135 U.S locations in selected states, is ninth on a ranking of top urgent care operators by number of locations.
UH may be expanding into urgent care to help funnel patients to its hospitals for follow-up care, said Alan Sager, professor of health policy and management at Boston University School of Public Health. Both the urgent care centers and UH hospitals use the Epic electronic health record system, so patient data can be shared seamlessly.
But other health experts say that while urgent cares offers quick access to a doctor, these centers are not a perfect fix to the family doctor shortage. UH urgent care centers are staffed by primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants.
