The Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primaries are less than one month away.

Castro is not the first to challenge these two early voting states’ power. In 1999, Delaware Republicans similarly strove toby working to move up their primaries, as explained by NPR. However, New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner — the nation’s longest-serving top election official — did not want to give up the state’s prime early voting spot and responded by moving New Hampshire’s primary date closer to Iowa’s caucuses .
