In my search for answers, I look at the world of admission to elite public high schools. New York City has, some of which have incredibly competitive admissions processes. For eight of these schools, admission is based on a student's score on the Specialized High School Admissions Test .
In a perfect world, I'd want race-blind admissions, because a perfect world would have a level playing field. Unfortunately, this is not the reality. The test-based admission results shown in New York City highlight that race-conscious admission is necessary to address the historical discrimination against and underrepresentation of Black and Latinx students.
