A former California resident shares their reasons for leaving the state, citing concerns about the political and cultural climate, particularly regarding education, family values, and reproductive rights. They highlight issues like high unemployment, the cost of living, and the state's policies on abortion and gender identity, ultimately leading them to seek a more suitable environment elsewhere.

Last year marked a significant turning point as I departed California to embark on my first full-time employment elsewhere. Initially, I viewed this move as a temporary measure. However, as time has passed, I've become certain that barring a miraculous intervention, I will not be returning. This sentiment, I've come to realize, is not unique to me.

A growing number of young professionals are leaving the state in substantial numbers, driven by the hope of better job prospects, more affordable housing options, and a more favorable environment for raising a family. The financial burden of paying over $2,000 each month to reside in a modest 500-square-foot studio apartment for an indefinite period of time is not particularly appealing to many. This is especially true in California, where securing employment, even for college graduates, has become increasingly challenging. The state currently faces the highest unemployment rate in the nation, indicating the largest percentage of individuals actively seeking work but unable to find it. Although I am a native Californian, these economic factors alone were not the primary drivers of my departure. I am confident that I could have found employment within the state and, if necessary, resigned myself to a life of apartment living. \So, if not primarily economic factors, what ultimately led me to transform my initially 'temporary' move into a permanent one? A significant contributing factor was the state's embrace of a so-called 'Woke Central' identity under the leadership of Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. More importantly, however, was the concerning message this sends to children. As someone who aspires to have a family, I find it difficult to imagine raising children in Newsom's California. At the age of five, my child could potentially be exposed to sex education from their public school teacher. In middle school, they would be legally required to participate in pro-LGBTQ sex education, which would encompass topics such as contraception, abortion, and gender identity, with no religious context. They would be encouraged to read 'S.E.X.: The All-You-Need-to-Know Sexuality Guide to Get You Through Your Teens and Twenties,' which contains explicit descriptions of anal sex and bondage. At the age of eleven or even younger, they could undergo a secret 'gender transition' facilitated by their teachers without my knowledge, thanks to a 2024 law signed by Newsom. In high school, they would be obligated to take yet another sex education class, possibly even taught by Planned Parenthood. While opting out or homeschooling might mitigate some of these issues, the more concerning aspect is the state-sponsored culture that permeates the atmosphere. This culture is something that is difficult to avoid. As I plan to have a family one day, the notion of raising my children in this environment is not appealing. \Newsom, similar to former Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris, appears to be shaping a presidential campaign centered on 'reproductive rights', utilizing California as a testing ground. Newsom has been described as a 'champion' for Planned Parenthood affiliates, dedicating himself to transforming California into a sanctuary state not only for illegal immigrants but also for what some would consider child murder. He recently responded to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill with harsh words when she attempted to extradite a California 'doctor' facing criminal charges for shipping deadly chemical abortion pills into Louisiana. Last fall, Newsom allocated $140 million in emergency funds to abortion facilities throughout the state to maintain their operations following the loss of federal funding. In January, state legislators announced an additional $90 million in funding for abortion providers. While California does not require abortion reporting, estimates suggest the state saw approximately 183,240 abortions in 2024 alone, with 31% of pregnancies ending in abortion. This is significantly higher than the national abortion rate, which various sources estimate to be between 17 and 25%. Such a high rate, where nearly one in three babies' lives are intentionally terminated, reflects a culture that devalues life. This culture is further reflected in California's 'assisted suicide' program, where 1,281 individuals received prescriptions for assisted suicide drugs in 2023, up from 293 in 2016, the program's inaugural year. While other suicide rates have also increased, the broader factors within Californian policies and culture have caused me to leave
