Queensland closes its border to NSW and the ACT | Sky News AustraliaPremier Annastacia Palaszczuk has closed the Queensland border to all of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. \n\nThe Premier said the border closure – which will come into effect from 1am on Saturday – was “tough on Queenslanders” but “the right thing to do because your health comes first”. \n\n“We’ve seen what’s happened in Victoria and we don’t want to see that happen here,” she said. \n\n“Businesses have said to me loudly and clearly that they do not want to go backwards, they want to stay where they are.” \n\nPremier Palaszczuk issued a renewed warning to Queenslanders not to travel to Victoria, NSW or the ACT. \n\n“We’ve seen Victoria is not getting better, and we’re not going to wait for New South Wales to get worse,” she said. \n\n“I said I would not hesitate… and today is the day we say we are putting Queenslanders first.” \n\nThe Premier said the border announcement was, in part, in response to “continuous breaches”. \n\n“These continuous breaches that have happened by Queenslanders going down to Victoria, by Queenslanders coming up through the New South Wales border and up into Queensland, is putting our Queensland at risk,” she said. \n\n“And we have to do everything we possibly can to stop that.” \n
