Co-writer Henry Gilroy on why George Lucas came out of retirement to help with CloneWars😯 ''I'm retired. I might see you guys once a year, twice a year maybe. You guys are making this. I'm not going to be around… Oh, you guys are creating cinema.'' 👏
Star Wars creator George Lucas is known for his hands-on approach to his intergalactic saga, but according to the co-executive producer of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, he almost had very little involvement in the animated series. Star Wars: The Clone Wars first aired on Cartoon Network on October 3, 2008, and the series stands out as one of the most successful modern animated shows.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with SlashFilm, Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series writer Henry Gilroy reveals that George Lucas originally wasn't supposed to be very involved in the show's development. Lucas changed his mind and came out of retirement to work on it after watching early clips and seeing it had a cinematic aspect ratio.
"I'm retired. I might see you guys once a year, twice a year maybe. You guys are making this. I'm not going to be around… Oh, you guys are creating cinema.”Why The Clone Wars Was So Important For Star Wars In an era when the Star Wars prequels weren't yet well-received, Star Wars: The Clone Wars arrived and helped matters immensely.
Ahsoka was just one of the many important fleshed-out characters in the show, though.Star Wars prequel villains Darth Maul, Count Dooku, and General Grievous also got much-needed backstories and future storytelling. Darth Maul's character wasn't a real focus of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
Count Dooku and General Grievous' relationship got a lot of work in the series, as well, and their expanded stories through animation do a lot of heavy lifting that the prequel films never did on their own. Ultimately, the biggest success of Star Wars: The Clone Wars was how it added nuance and backstory to Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship.
