Dorian Thompson-Robinson has worked with Deshaun Watson and will now continue to do so in Cleveland.
But this is the type of thing teams with veteran quarterbacks do. They keep drafting quarterbacks later in the draft hoping to develop a quality backup in case the starter gets hurt. Just ask the 49ers, who took Brock Purdy with the final pick in last year’s draft.
Thompson-Robinson does come to the Browns with a lot of experience, and he’s progressed year by year at UCLA. His 2022 season was his best as he was 266 of 382 passing for 3,169 yards, 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. All of those numbers were career highs including the interceptions, but it’s worth noting that he threw 99 more passes in 2022 than the year prior, so it’s fair to assume INTs go up with more throws.
One of the negatives with Thompson-Robinson is that he’s only 203 pounds, which is small for a quarterback who likes to run as much as he does. He will also need to improve his technique as a thrower.
