So, which was correct? On the one hand, both are - on the other, it depends on who you ask. The fans in Howard J. Lamade Stadium favored Taiwan. Their cheers were for Taiwan and they waived small Taiwanese flags. But, Wu added, he was not upset with Little League referring to the team as Chinese Taipei because that is how it is in international sports events.

The Taiwan committee sued to keep the “Republic of China” name but a court in Switzerland in 1980 rejected its appeal. Taiwan officially accepted the change in a year later.
