Some troopers, officials following that study, would be directed to ease off enforcing some traffic laws and others will face audits of their stops under a pilot program aimed at curbing racial bias, Platkin announced at the time.
The data it obtained showed that troopers across the state who typically issued more than 6,000 tickets a week wrote just 1,205 the first week of August. The slowdown continued through the busy travel holidays of Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve before finally showing signs of ending in late March 2024, the report noted.
That “well-deserved reputation for serving the public good,” he continued, had been tainted by the “alleged and unprecedented slowdown” in State Police traffic enforcement from approximately July 2023 to March 2024.
