“I’ve wanted so much for to have success and for the Houston Texans to be everything they could be,”. “A lot of people would think, ‘Well you have all of those Cowboys fans , why don’t you just keep it Cowboys?’ First of all, I don’t have that wish and I don’t have that ability, but Houston deserves football. I have a long appreciation for what football means in south Texas and Houston, especially.
Part of Jones' love for Houston comes from his playing days at the University of Arkansas. He said so many good players from Houston have starred for the Razorbacks that if you removed the Houston players from the Arkansas Hall of Fame,"it would look like a jack-o'-lantern with no teeth in it." Jones also talked about how walking into the Astrodome as a college student helped inspire him to create AT&T Stadium more than 40 years later. Before playing in the 1965 Cotton Bowl, Arkansas coach Frank Broyles took Jones and the rest of the team to Houston for a field trip to tour the Astrodome, which wouldn't officially open for another few months.Currently, the Texans and Cowboys play each other every four years when the AFC South gets matched up against the NFC East.
