Most Fredericksburg residents will pay more property tax to the city in the coming fiscal year, after city officials signed off on a rate hike of almost 25%, a move they say is needed to pay for salary increases for police, fire and EMS staffers. The Fredericksburg City Council voted to raise the city's property tax rate to 20.5 cents per $100 of taxable value, a 24.4% increase from last year's rate of 16.5 cents per $100 of taxable value.

Wareham said the city in recent years has typically had a tax rate comparable to this year's, but a spike in property values allowed the city to lower the rate last year. The 2023 tax rate was the lowest in more than 12 years, according to records from the Gillespie County Appraisal District.
