Mandalorian & Boba Fett director Bryce Dallas Howard loved seeing Din Djarin get injured in the latest StarWars series. 'I was super excited to have that because I wanted to show he gets hurt and then heals from bacta spray.'

Actor and director Bryce Dallas Howard shared why she loved the Mandalorian getting injured during his appearance on The Book of Boba Fett television series. Howard directed one episode in each of The Mandalorian's first two seasons, a show set five years after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and centered on the mysterious Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin who was hired by the remnants of the evil Galactic Empire to retrieve the young Jedi Grogu.

During The Mandalorian season 1, Din acquired his shiny new armor made from beskar he received as payment, a tough metal that is impervious to blasters and lightsabers. This allowed Din to survive a surprise attack by Moff Gideon who wielded the famed Mandalorian lightsaber, the Darksaber. As a result of Gideon's defeat at the hand of Din, the Mandalorian gained the ritualistic right as the owner of the weapon until he is bested in combat by another.

"In the Boba Fett season, Mando got sliced by the dark saber, and then his leg was messed up. I was super excited to have that because I wanted to show he gets hurt and then heals from bacta spray." Showing Din's injury during his battle in The Book of Boba Fett was important to both the lore of the Darksaber and to the journey which Din needs to undertake in the upcoming season of The Mandalorian. Later during the episode, Din locates the new Mandalorian coven on the artificial ringworld of Glavis where the Armorer and Paz Vizsla now reside. There, Din trains with his weapon and learns that the blade does not work like other swords or melee weapons, getting heavier as he swings.

He discovers that the Darksaber is more than just a tool for destruction and that it is an extension of himself. As his confidence grows in the coming season, so will his ability to wield the mighty weapon. After his appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, Din is set to return in The Mandalorian season 3 and it will likely focus on his wielding of the Darksaber and whether or not he will be challenged for the weapon.
