Officials say Kerrville's airport needs the land to comply with federal aviation rules. But the property's owner has rejected the proposed purchase price.
Kerrville and Kerr County officials might use eminent domain to take a piece of private property for use by the county's airport if they can't reach an agreement with the property owner on a purchase price. The Kerrville-Kerr County Airport , which is jointly owned by the city and county, needs the 55-acre property to create a runway protection zone, said Anthony Muñoz, the airport's manager.
As Texas embraces battery energy storage, Hill Country residents push back The property's owner, Dark Sky Estates LLC, owns about 340 acres just east of the airport. Dark Sky Estates rejected an independent third-party appraisal's valuation of about $1.6 million for the tract in June, according to Kerrville Assistant City Manager Michael Hornes. The Texas Department of Transportation, which is working with the airport, originally valued the property at about $824,000.
