To comply with EPA rules, Kerrville is checking for lead pipes in its system. Residents are being asked to do the same with their private water lines.

Kerrville's water utility is asking its customers to help determine whether the water pipes in their homes might contain lead. To comply with Environmental Protection Agency rules, Kerrville Public Works and other water utilities across the country are investigating their systems to identify water service lines that are made of lead or at risk of exposure to lead.

Environmentalists raise concerns about 1,100-home Hill Country project Kerrville Public Works officials say they haven't found lead in the city's service lines, but the utility is also required to send notices to residents asking them to check their private water lines. “Because the city does not have information about these private service lines, there is a possibility that they may be made of lead or galvanized pipe that was at one point connected to lead,” the city said.
