Actor Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Agent Ilsa Faust in the Mission: Impossible franchise, believes that character spinoffs don't make sense.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One star Rebecca Ferguson doesn't think spinoffs for characters in the Mission: Impossible franchise makes sense for its future. Ferguson debuted as MI6 Agent Ilsa Faust in 2015's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, becoming an integral part of the team ever since. She will reprise her role of Ilsa in the upcoming Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, the first of a two-film finale to Ethan Hunt's story.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Speaking to ComicBook.com, Ferguson revealed that she doesn't want Ilsa to have a spinoff, believing it's not the right direction for the franchise following Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and its sequel. She explained how a character-focused spinoff would take away from the team aspect of the mainline films.
"When I started Mission, I fell in love with Ilsa so much. I thought, 'Yeah, f*ck yeah she'd have a spinoff. And then gradually, I don't know if I became humble or if I realized it has nothing to do with Ilsa, it actually is a team thing, it is Ilsa and Ethan and [Simon Pegg's] Benji and - I was gonna say Ving [Rhames] - all of the characters together that makes it so good.
Why Mission: Impossible Couldn't Work Without The Whole Team While Tom Cruise's Ethan is the star of the Mission: Impossible films, other notable actors play memorable characters on his team. Simon Pegg featured as Benji, the team's comedic field agent who first appeared in Mission: Impossible III.
While exploring characters like Ilsa, Benji, or Luther on their own focused missions could be interesting, Mission: Impossible's team element is an important part of every new challenge the characters face, in which their evolving friendships and teamwork make their task more engaging. If characters were to go off on their own, they may not be as interesting without having one another to bounce off of and allow each agent to grow.
