Roughly half of all states require independent campaigns to list a vice presidential candidate when applying for ballot access, which has proven to be a problem for Kennedy in Nevada. Shanahan, an attorney and former ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, could also vastly help financially fund gaining access to state ballots.“Kennedy is a Radical Left Democrat, and always will be!!! I love that he is running!” During the announcement of Shanahan as his vice presidential pick in Oakland, California, on Tuesday, Kennedy didn’t dispute allegations he was a spoiler in the November election. “Our campaign is a spoiler; I agree with that,” Kennedy told the crowd of supporters who cheered at his comments. “It’s a spoiler for President Biden and for President Trump. It’s a spoiler of a war machine. It’s a spoiler for Wall Street and Big Ag and Big Tech and Big Telecom and Big Pharma and the corporate-owned media.”In a press call hosted by the Democratic National Committee, lawmakers excoriated Kennedy’s campaign and stressed they were not underestimating his ability to harm Biden in a matchup that is expected to remain close through Election Day. “The truth is that he was drafted into this race by Donald Trump’s top supporters and is being financed in this race by Trump’s largest donor,” Lt. Gov. Austin Davis said. “That isn’t merely a coincidence. He has no realistic path to victory in Pennsylvania. All he can do is take away votes from President Biden and make it easier for Donald Trump to win, and we simply can’t afford to let that happen.”
