Over seven seasons, the show has taken its viewers on a bloodthirsty, dragon ride of sex, death and politics. But who will survive the slaughter of Season 8?
On Sunday, millions will tune in to the premiere of the final season of HBO's landmark series, Game of Thrones. Over seven seasons, the show has taken its viewers on a bloodthirsty, dragon ride of sex, death and politics.
Students at Germany’s Technical University of Munich fed reams of online fan-sourced character data into a machine-learning algorithm that picked out hidden patterns, the team's mentor, lecturer Guy Yachdav, explained to Newsweek. The odds, for the television show at least, look best for characters including Daenerys Targaryen , Tyrion Lannister , Varys , Samwell Tarly and Jaime Lannister
Students used similar techniques two years ago to successfully predict the Season 6 resurrection of Jon Snow. But even the smartest predictions can’t guarantee a character’s fate. The group’s own tests—where they “hid” certain characters from their algorithm and asked it to guess if they were dead or alive, Yachdev said—revealed a 79 percent success rate.
