Both the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention took the formal actions to make the boosters available. The FDA previously authorized a single booster dose for certain immunocompromised individuals following completion of a three-dose primary vaccination series.
“I’ll follow my doctor’s advice,” one reader wrote in response to the subtext question. “My wife is immunocompromised with rheumatoid arthritis, so I will likely get it. My guess is this fall I will get a booster just like when I get a flu shot. I suspect we will be getting an annual booster for some time.”
Others were more cautious. “No clear evidence that it’s necessary at the moment. My wife and I are going to wait and see,” a reader said.
