Lessons in Chemistry features a talking dog who delivers a new perspective on the life of pets, with a notable actor lending his voice to the canine.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Apple TV's drama series Lessons in Chemistry introduces a fascinatingly unique character of a dog dealing with grief, but who is the voice behind him? Based on the book of the same name, Lessons in Chemistry follows the story of a 1950s woman named Elizabeth Zott as she works to prove herself as a scientist in a male-dominated field.
Lessons in Chemistry's cast grows in episode 3 in regard to Elizabeth's dog named Six-Thirty, who she adopted in episode 2 after finding him abandoned and searching for food. While pet companions are nothing new in entertainment, Six-Thirty actually takes on an interesting and important role in both the novel and the series. Not only does he provide narration in Lessons in Chemistry episode 3's events, but Six-Thirty also boasts a recognizable actor lending his voice to the dog.
B.J. Novak Voices Six-Thirty The Dog In Lessons In Chemistry Best known for playing Ryan in the extremely popular sitcom The Office, B.J. Novak lends his voice acting skills to the role of a dog named Six-Thirty in Lessons in Chemistry. While unconventional, Six-Thirty actually narrates several chapters in Lessons in Chemistry's book, and the show finds a way to have his perspective on-screen as well.
What sets Six-Thirty apart from other characters on the 1950s-set show Lessons in Chemistry – and TV characters in general – is that he provides a perspective audiences have not received much of. In the episode, Six-Thirty details his experiences with grief and the loss of his human companion, Calvin.
Why B.J. Novak Was Cast In Lessons In Chemistry Although Novak is best recognized for his part on The Office, he is actually no stranger to voice acting. He voiced Baker in The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2, proving he has experience in the area. What got Novak the role, though, was his kindness and gentleness in delivering the heart-breaking lines of Six-Thirty.
