While Punxsutawney Phil will be making his spring predictions, Feb. 2 is known as Armadillo Day in the Texas Hill Country.
A nine-banded armadillo named Bee Cave Bob will once again predict whether we'll get an early spring or if we're in for six more weeks of winter on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025.Two arctic cold snaps with accompanying winter weather this season have left many Texans wondering how much longer we have until spring-like temperatures return to the Lone Star State — and an armadillo in Bee Cave, Texas , might have the answer.spring’s return from Pennsylvania on that day for more than 135 years.
“He ought to be able to tell the weather a hell of a lot better than a groundhog,” Burke said in 2024. “That’s our theory, and we’re sticking to it.” Armadillo Day is celebrated on a ranch in Bee Cave at a spot called the West Pole, which the Texas Legislature in 2007 deemed to be the honorary location of the world’s West Pole.
“Bob’s been here for eight years, and we were wondering if he’ll be here another eight, so we have a spare I wanna show you,” Fisher said at the 2024 ceremony. “This guy is up and coming. His name is Bobby.”
