More than half the speakers at the Republican convention in Milwaukee have spread election falsehoods or cast doubt on 2024. Here’s who they are.
More than 110 people are scheduled to speak at this week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee — dozens more than in 2016 and 2020. And Donald Trump’s grip on the party is evident from the roster.Election denialism will be on full display. At least 61 speakers have questioned or denied Joe Biden’s victory in 2020 or have preemptively cast doubt on the integrity of the 2024 election, according to a Washington Post analysis of public statements and social media posts.
Donald Trump’s wife, Melania, and his daughters, Ivanka and Tiffany, each spoke at the 2016 and 2020 conventions, but they aren’t on the list this year. They aren’t the only ones who won’t be on the 2024 convention stage. A handful of people who spoke at both the 2016 and 2020 conventions are notably absent. They include GOP establishment figures who have fallen out of Trump’s orbit: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, former House speaker Kevin McCarthy, former vice president Mike Pence and Sen. Joni Ernst, the Senate’s fourth-ranking Republican.
Two Trump loyalists also are out after back-to-back convention speeches. Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s former attorney and a central player in his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, is not on the list. Nor is Pam Bondi, a GOP lawyer who represented Trump in his first impeachment trial and led “lock her up” chants directed at Hillary Clinton at the 2016 convention.
Meanwhile, others are speaking at their third GOP convention in a row. Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White will take the stage again. So will Sens. Marsha Blackburn and Tom Cotton , as well as Ben Carson, who was Trump’s secretary of housing and urban development.Republican primary opponents also are scheduled to speak.
