Secrets hidden within the diary could lead the Pogues to the biggest treasure of them all.
During the first two seasons of Outer Banks, viewers were introduced to Tanny's tale and the discovery that he used his findings to establish the Tannyhill Plantation, which would later become the home to the Cameron family. Ward Cameron found the diary, which was written in the Gullah, and donated it to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
John B traveled to the university and took pictures of the diary, and brought it back to their history teacher Mr. Sunn, who can read in the Gullah language Tanny wrote it in. In season one, John B made copies of the diary and discovered the gold, but when Ward and Rafe Cameron got word of the treasure, Ward stole the treasure and framed John B for murder.
This season, John B revealed that he left his copy of the diary in his beloved old school Volkswagen known as The Twinkie. While the Pogues were off making new discoveries and wound up stranded on Poguelandia in season 2, John B's copy of the diary was damaged from the rain. Since John B and Big John know that Mr. Sunn had the original copy of the diary, they headed to his home to retrieve it. When they arrived, the father and son duo were met by Carlos Singh's smugglers as they attempted to steal it. A fight ensued, and Big John killed the smugglers and took the diary.
Now that the diary is back in John B's possession, the Pogues continue to use it to decode clues that will help them secure the biggest treasure of all: El Dorado.
