When Madison County cut a check for $3,064,116.13 for Madison County Schools in August, it should be no surprise that it was the biggest check from county coffers.
The lone exception? Madison County cut a $13.5 million check to Southstate Bank in July. That was an interfund repayment – transfers among funds in separate bank accounts – according to County Attorney Jeff Rich. Also ranking ahead of county schools that month was AXON Enterprise, which received a $5.4 million check for body cameras, tasers, software and support for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
