Murakami Named All-Star as White Sox Rookie Returns from InjuryChicago Sports Tonight covers the USMNT's World Cup exit and MLB trade deadline needs for the White Sox and Cubs. Munetaka Murakami was named to the 2026 MLB All-Star roster as a reserve, joining teammate Miguel Vargas. He replaces injured Twins outfielder Byron Buxton. Murakami rejoined the team after missing over a month with an injury sustained on May 29. He resumes his rookie campaign with strong stats: 20 homers, 41 RBIs, 43 runs, and a .947 OPS. The White Sox went 17-18 during his absence. Murakami is the eighth rookie in franchise history to be named an All-Star and the first since José Abreu in 2014. He will also join Shohei Ohtani as the second Japanese-born player in the Derby.
