Ben Stiller asked the White House X account to leave “Tropic Thunder” out of its deranged propaganda video, saying, ‘War is not a movie.’ The montage, which mixes movie scenes with real Iran footage, is offensive to anyone with a brain.

Incredibly, this content got even more depraved over the last week, as the White House began mixing real Iran war footage into flippant social-media posts. It all culminated in this Thursday night post on the official White Housefeeds, which celebrates the attack on Iran with a mix of drone footage and clips from films and TV shows likeThere are so many layers of stupidity here it’s hard to know how to react.

A few points that spring to mind:Tony Stark coming to regret his involvement in weapons manufacturing for the U.S. government is a major part of his character arc. Saul Goodman is a sleazy lawyer, and his story doesn’t end in a good place . Same goes for meth cook Walter White. The specific scenes in this clip show them at peak derangement. Ditto for Kylo Ren, a genocidal maniac with debilitating daddy issues. In this scene, he just got turned down by a girl, and he’s coping by unleashing every weapon at his disposal on his uncle Luke Skywalker — which is particularly embarrassing, as Luke isn’t really there.More broadly, it’s unclear whom this montage is aimed at. Perhaps boys or “men with the brains of boys,” as my colleague mused in horror this morning? That’s probably right, but hopefully even a 12-year-old boy with two brain cells to rub together can see how deranged it is for the U.S. government to celebrate a real ongoing war in whichHey White House, please remove the Tropic Thunder clip. We never gave you permission and have no interest in being a part of your propaganda machine. War is not a movie.Stiller’s point is succinct and well stated. But don’t expect a rational response from the team that thought it would be totally badass to drop a clip that shows Optimus Prime finishing real-life, non-robot Defense secretary Pete Hegseth’s sentences.Margaret Hartmann The UFC is holding a cage match to celebrate America’s 250th birthday . Here’s what we know about plans, tickets, and the fight card. It’s still unclear who was responsible for a missile strike on a southern Iran school that left at least 175 dead, many of them children. The Texas AG is going to the mats for Trump’s beloved SAVE Act, making it much harder for the president to push him out.The embattled Texas congressman plans to drop his reelection bid after he admitted to an affair with a now-deceased staffer. The Iranian diaspora is fracturing in real time, across dinner tables, on WhatsApp, and in the silence of blocked numbers. It’s hard to do worse than the former DHS secretary, but a lot depends on whether Mullin and President Trump double down on ICE abuses. Many Republicans are hesitant to use the W-word to describe operations in Iran. But the president isn’t coy about his regime-change plans. The final straw wasn’t DHS’s cruel and chaotic tactics, her alleged affair, or various other scandals, but trying to use Trump himself as a cover. What’s the new design? Was the East Wing demolition illegal? Will a lawsuit halt construction? Is Trump paying a cent? Here’s everything we know.More countries are getting entangled in the conflict, as the U.S and Iran vow to intensify their attacks. Here’s what happened on the fifth day.The DHS secretary did say she was “shocked” to be asked about the widely rumored affair under oath, calling the question “tabloid garbage.”The GOP can’t afford to attack Ken Paxton then rehabilitate him if he wins the runoff. So Trump is expected to back John Cornyn. The embattled representative made it to a primary runoff election after weeks of scandal surrounding his alleged affair with a now-deceased staffer.New York
