Chuck Lorre criticized President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump during a charity awards speech, prompting a sharp response from the White House and criticism from a media commentator.
The White House urged television producer Chuck Lorre to seek psychiatric help after he used a charity acceptance speech to insult President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump.
The remarks came at Project Angel Food's Angel Awards in Los Angeles, where Lorre received an award for his transformational contribution to the charity. Project Angel Food provides medically tailored meals to people facing critical and life-threatening illnesses. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said in a statement that Lorre should immediately seek psychiatric help to treat his severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain.
Lorre's Acceptance Speech Draws White House Rebuke
The White House response followed Lorre's remarks, which were first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. During his acceptance speech, Lorre repeatedly turned to politics and told the crowd that his need to cause laughter compelled him to do so. He said he would love to express gratitude to all the people who have devoted their lives to making Project Angel Food an oasis for those in need, adding that would be his preference.
But because I am a comedy writer, I have no choice but to explain how I wake up every morning, turn on CNN to see if the President of the United States had a heart attack while straining to take a dump, Lorre said. He also called the president a Russian asset during the speech. Regarding Melania Trump, Lorre called the first lady a surgically enhanced, cold-hearted Yugoslavian escort who clearly hates her husband.
He then called on those in attendance to open their wallets to contribute to the nonprofit. He said his need to cause laughter forced him to question how a country can embrace a smart, educated, warm, funny first lady like Michelle Obama and somehow be OK with the description he applied to Melania Trump. Lorre is known for creating shows including The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men and Mom.
The Big Bang Theory cast members Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Melissa Rauch, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik have posed with producers Steven Molaro, Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady at past events. Two and a Half Men cast members Holland Taylor, Jon Cryer, Charlie Sheen, Marin Hinkle, Angus T. Jones and Conchata Ferrell also have posed with Lorre.
Hollywood Faces Accusations Of a Double Standard
Christian Toto, founder and editor of Hollywood in Toto, told Fox News Digital that Lorre's attack on the first lady highlights what he sees as a glaring double standard in Hollywood. Generally speaking, we do not attack first ladies. It is just sort of an unspoken rule, Toto said. They were not elected.
They are just supporting their husbands, so by and large, even comedians will not go there. But when it comes to First Lady Melania Trump, they go there, they go there a lot. Comparing her to an escort is obviously factually incorrect for the obvious, but also just cruel, Toto said. For all the talk in Hollywood trying to treat women better and #MeToo, and things like that, I thought that was rather inappropriate, to say the least.
Toto added that he believed Hollywood's reaction would be different if a conservative producer targeted a Democratic figure. There are double standards that exist in Hollywood. Targets you can hit; targets you cannot hit, Toto said. If Michelle Obama was the target of such a cruel attack, I think it would get a lot of attention.
There might even be a call for him to apologize for his comments. He also criticized celebrities for discussing political issues at charity or non-political events. The event took place at the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Kitchen and Campus in Los Angeles.
