Ethics experts are raising alarms.

Both of those -- and more -- are possibilities amid reports the White House is soliciting corporate sponsors and donations for the Easter tradition. Harbinger, an outside event production company, is reaching out to possible sponsors on the White House’s behalf, according toEthics experts are sounding the alarm that the sponsorships go against rules preventing government officials from using their offices for private gain. “I’m shocked that they are doing this to raise money,” Richard Painter, the chief ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration, told the Times. “You can’t use the power of the United States government to favor one nonprofit over another.” Sponsorship opportunities include “Naming rights for key areas or elements,” “Sponsor logos featured on event signage,” “Custom-branded baskets, snacks/beverages, or souvenirs,” “Mentions in official event communications and social media posts,” “Acknowledgment in printed or digital event programs,” and “Inclusion in press releases and media interviews,” according to CNN. An unnamed former White House official who was involved in planning the event, criticized the Trump administration for courting corporations. “This is an enterprise.
