A report released by the State Department inspector general today determined that the Trump administration revoked a prestigious award given to a Finnish journalist because of social media posts in which she criticized the president by lisettevoytko
that the award was revoked after State Department officials found social media posts in which Aro criticized Trump.
Among the social media posts reportedly considered too critical: Aro tweeted that Trump “labels journalists as ‘enemy’ and ‘fake news,’” and in another Twitter post, said it was “sweet” that Trump would meet with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, where “Finnish people could protest.” Aro was told the award notification was a mistake by the Trump administration due to “lack of coordination” by the State Department, which said theSenior U.S. officials were concerned that the media would highlight Aro’s social media posts if she were given the award, the report says, and that it would embarrass first lady Melania Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his department.
