White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Monday defended President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son Hunter despite telling the press multiple times that the president had no such plans.
'We’ve been asked that question multiple times. Our answer stands, which is no,' she said. Questions about whether Biden would pardon his son have swirled since last year. Before the jury reached its verdict in June, Biden said that he would accept its decision and not use his presidential pardon power if Hunter were to be convicted. A few days later, the president also told the press that he wouldn't commute his son's sentence in the gun case either.
