The TSA said it will no longer enforce mask-wearing on public transportation after a federal judge in Florida voided the mandate. FOX13

A federal judge voided the Biden administration's mask mandate for travelers using public transportation such as trains and airplanes. During the White House press briefing, press secretary Jen Psaki said the Dept. of Homeland Security is currently looking into the ruling and has not made a change to the mask mandate at this time.

The Association of Flight Attendants, the nation’s largest union of cabin crews, has recently taken a neutral position on the mask rule because its members are divided about the issue. On Monday, the union’s president appealed for calm on planes and in airports."The last thing we need for workers on the frontlines or passengers traveling today is confusion and chaos," union leader Sara Nelson said.

In her 59-page ruling, Mizelle said the only remedy was to vacate the rule entirely across the country because it would be impossible to end it for the limited group of people who objected in the lawsuit. According to the White House, the Transportation Security Administration will not enforce the mask mandate in light of the recent ruling.

The MTA operates New York City buses and subway trains as well as two commuter rail lines. Face coverings have been mandatory on all trains and buses since early in the pandemic.Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly told a U.S. Senate panel on Wednesday that "masks don't add much, if anything" in fighting the spread of COVID-19 on airplanes, calling into question the reasoning behind mask mandates on flights imposed both by airlines and the Biden administration.
